Considered the little brother to the Galaxy DX959, make no mistake about it, there is nothing 'little' about it's performance! Features Include Single Sideband Operation ( USB / LSB ) as well as a large, easy to read Meter and Channel Display... Both in Striking BLUE! The built-in auto-calibbrating SWR meter is a trademark feature that you won't find in many other CB's. The difference of this radio versus the Galaxy DX959 is that you won't find a frequency display, as a result the overall size of the chassis has been decreased to that of the Cobra 29 series. Something else you won't find on the Galaxy DX959 is the starlite illuminated faceplate..Allows Easy Night-time Viewing.

Best Galaxy AM/SSB Radio

This radio is Super! It has great receive, and when peaked and tuned, It deadkeys above 4 watts on full power. I love adjustable rf power for cb radio, been a long time comming. Every featrue works great. I do prefer a tone controll over talkback. Provide this radio and Sparkys Expert 3rd class techs to align and tune your radio, with a Good Power Mic and this radio is The Bomb on AM/Good on SSB. I like the quality of the build. I like the nice big blue meter, and the fact that this radio also has Mosfet final! The radios tone is not quite as nice as a Cobra 148 GTL but, it is a superior receiver. It just picks up more white noise. connect this baby boy to a decent antenna , like the antron 99 and bud you have action. Thanks Sparkys for getting this radio out to the public fast.

Although it may not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive rigs such as a frequency counter, roger beep, echo, etc., that doesn't mean that it isn't quite a radio. Quite on the contrary, Galaxy's DX-979 transceiver boasts of great audio as well as a red hot receiver.
The radio is user friendly and compared to others in its price range, it fends very well for itself. The SSB mode works very well and this radio has a meter that you can actually see without using a magnifying glass. The meter will check the incoming signal strength, SWR, modulation percentage as well as your power output, both on dead key and modulated signal as it reads peak power
I have used the rig for about a month now, and it gets five stars from me. Using a mediocore mobile antenna (41 inches tall), I have worked a ton of skip from Virginia, including California, Michigan, Indiana, Arizona, Ontario and Nova Scotia. I have received excellent audio reports and was able to copy the stations quite well.
Add these features plus several more to the relatively small footprint of the chassis and I believe that Galaxy has produced a winner! Sparky's CB Shack does a great job of tuning and aligning the radio and the end product between Galaxy and Sparky's is a radio that you will truly enjoy operating either mobile or base.
