The first thing I noticed about this unit is the long, crystal clear receive. Most Galaxy radios I have encountered have very good receive, but this raises the bar a notch. For receive, it is simply the best out there. Transmit is also very good, especially with a mic upgrade. It will talk all over just about every other box out there with no modification, but there are a few, much larger boxes that will overpower it. The unit stays cool at all times despite the power due to it's internal and completely silent fans. I never hear them. The faceplate is especially well done and the overall quality is excellent. It does not have some of the features that the Ranger 29xx models have, so if you must have channel scanning, controls on the mic, etc, get the ranger. This unit is a bit expensive, but absolutely worth it for someone like me who hates listening to noise. I gave it five starts even though the mic is less than perfect and it lacks a few features. The receive more than makes up for this. If I could I would give 4 3/4 starts. I have yet to encounter a radio that I consider perfect. This is as close as it gets.

This is a Very NICE radio to use, easy to see at night or day, loud, great echo, heard weak stations. looks great, no problems have had mine for 2 years, Sparky tied the fine tune to the course on the voice lock for me, output well over 100 watts, runs cool!..............Oldtimer
