yup,, like the fella's said. The higher the better, but do not let that drive ya' nuts. How high may be just relative to location. If somebody has an antenna on a fifty foot tower, but lives in a valley,,, he may not be any better off than a guy on a big hill with the antenna strapped to a clothes line pole. I am no tech head, and radio waves do not need line of sight,, but I would think higher in the sky is better than higher from the ground.

Just lash it to your chimney, or get a roof tripod. If you want hard core long DX capabilities, you may want to upgrade from the 99 anyway,, but it is still a great antenna for most users.

I have always been told and I believe the Antron instructions say that best performance is achieved with the bottom of the antenna at 38 feet.

Hi,
Most radio operators sell the A99 short, its a great antenna, and the reason the instructions say 38' is because if you put it up higher in most cases it will bring in more white noise into your radio and it will be harder to pickup those weak station most of the time, but you will be heard a little farther away, I run an A99 at 36' to the bottom and a I-10K an 28" to the bottom and both antennas work quite well, I moved the I-10K up and down to where the signal to noise ratio was the best for where I live and had my A99 at 40' but it pulled in to much while noise so dropped to to 36 ' to the bottom sometimes depending on direction one antenna will out perform the other, but unless there are perfect conditions the I-10K is my antenna of choice because of its signal to noise ratio, its very quite and brings in those real reak station nice....................Oldtimer
