There is a section for scanners over at the World Wide Radio Forum. You might check that out too.

There are not many peak & tunes for scanners, as a general rule they are at thier peak from the factory. If you want to improve your RX, upgrade your antenna and use quaility low loss feedline.

Scanners are not easy to inprove on best way I have found is to put up a good antenna and a mast mounted preamp.

Also remember between digital and rebanding some radioshack and bearcats are going dead ....

I have read what all of you have said in regards to my ?. But... I still thought of it as in a radio - in regards to the recieve. I know that a antenna outside will help my recieve and the pre amp. I do have a antenna outside on the roof at this time. Here for our county we use 800meg. So a stubby antenna will pick that up. For the adjacent countys they use 155, 460, to 800 meg. I can pick those up as well too but just wanted to know about the recieve part of the scanner. Oops forgot to mention also low band of 46 meg sorry. But.... like in a radio the recieve can be adjusted so thought it would be perhaps like that in a scanner . And if the scanner is older may need to be retuned. Thank you ...

Scanners are broadband and its unlikely you will make any diffrence tuning them however a good antenna even a roof mounted discone with a preamp is light years better that the indoor wip.

Here at the jail we use 460 mhz and I can copy our repeaters back at my house with a outdoor ant no problem at all.

46 mhz is another problem you will need a good antenna like a 28-800 mhz discone with that antenna you can hear 10 meter FM ( 29.600, 29.620, 29.640 29.660 and 29.680 ) as well at all the low band VHF services like the forest and remote fire departments as well as 6 meters on 52.525. The old coardless phones are on 46 and 49 mhz too.....

In my opinion LEAVE THE RADIO ALONE ..... and go get a good antenna and some good coax and if you can find a good preamp it will not hurt either.

E-Mail me if you want to talk off forum
