I got this 78 elite got it with a basic tune up. Every once in a while it'll squeal and have no signal strenght comming in. Has anyone seen this before?

did you get it from sparky and how long have you had it ? is it still under warranty ?

I got it from a local shop. Had it for about a year and a half. Its not sparkified, but i had the mod opened up when i got it.

Have you tried another mic, what kind of mic are you using and when it squeals have you tried moving the mic cord down at the radio where the mic plug screw in. If you have a wire coming loose it could do it intermittently. Move the cord a little at the radio the next time it does it and if it stops immediately then have the mic wires resoldered.

Its stock bearcat mic. The radio did it alot when I first got it. Not so much now. I'll check the mic cord. It only does it on recieve. When I switch to wx mode it stops.

I had a cobra 29 weather cb that did the same thing. id just be drivin along and it would start squealing. i would just key up fer a couple seconds and then unkey and it would stop. I could even turn the radio off and it would still squeal. dont no why it did that though. maybe its got something to do with the weather radios. idk

i'll keep that in mind. i don't recall it squealing when it was off, but it would continue when i turned it back on.

It is possible it is the weather alert and it would do it if you even had the radio off completely. Check the weather if it squeals and if it comes up with a severe weathr alert then that is your solution. I had an 78 elite and one day it squealed at me and then I turned on the radio and weather and that was what it was doing.
