I was just joking with you Jonny. I doubt if the radio would damage the antenna unless it was an extremely powerful radio. However you may have transmitted on a frequency that you were not supposed to. And again, maybe someone is messing around with you too. Do you know what Frequency you were transmitting on?

Without knowing what frequency you you were talking on, it is hard to tell what was going on.

If you learn or find out how to upload pics, maybe you could teach me. I don't know how either. Sounds like you have some work to do learning about your radio. Best of luck to you. I need to get some sleep now so I will talk at ya later. Good luck and keep us posted!!!! Sandman

"would a marine radio damage the antron 99 cb antenna ?" The radio would not hurt the antenna but the antenna would hurt the radio. The A-99 is not designed for use on VHF frequencies. FYI... The VHF maritime band is not intended for non-commercial land based stations or for hobby use. ---------- My Mudduck Station

As stated above, the A99 is NOT a marine VHF antenna, you'll eventually burn out the finals in the radio. Newer model marine VHF radios use a SAV 6 vhf model, which if memory serves is around $30. As for marine channel 16, it's the main calling channel and is monitored by the Coast Guard. Around here, Lake Erie, the USCG doesn't play nice if you wanna play on ch. 16. If you want a cheap vhf antenna, you can make a 1/4 wave ground plane out of a SO-239 connector and some welding rod; i.e. a vertical radiator & 4 radials drooping at 45 degrees. Just my $.02.......

Channel 16 on a Marine Radio is their "Emergency" channel -- and the U.S. Coast Guard does NOT play around!!! Plus they are for boat use only (not for home or mobile car/truck use), unless you have a 'special' license... ---------- .."Free men do not ask permission to bear arms".. ..My wheelchair can go from 0 to 6 in 2.7 seconds.. ..I'm 'not' a total idiot yet - some parts are still on 'back-order'..

Basically it is a poor idea to mess around with a maritime or Marine VHF Radio. The radios normally put out 25 watts. Channel 16 is a Calling/Distress Channel! The frequency is 156.800 MHz. The Antron 99 is not designed for those frequencies. Seeing that you badly want a CB radio. I would stick to that and that only.

I strongly agree with the fellas here,,,, do not use a Marine Frequency transmitter without the proper license and procedures. Your statement: "i'm most likely not going to talk but probley listen" is a bit of a concern,,, you should NEVER talk on that frequency, just to chat. ----------

"I want a CB badly," please try to go over what to are typing in the posts, for spelling, so those who read it may understanding you. The message board is not the same as text messaging. You are not typing for speed- trying to have a two way conversation over text messaging. There are a lot of great people here who would eagerly help you with information, but your posted need to be understandable. And, If you have a 102 inch stainless steel whip and two 102 inch fiberglass whips- "Shakespeare or Francis" keep them for future use, unless you really need the five dollars. A 102 inch stainless steel whip sells for 24.95 at a local Radio Shack. Please tell us what type of equipment you are running. CB, power supply, mic, base antenna, etc Best of Luck, Secret Squirrel
