"and my signals were only reaching to Westville"

That doesn't tell us much. How far were you talking before?
There could be 101 possible reasons. More details would help in find a solution to your problem. First I would check the antenna and feedline.

We can't help you unless you give use some important, need to know, info about your set up so we can make give you some intelligent suggestions to try to help you out.

What model Cobra are you using? A DXIV, 25, 29, 148?
Is your radio a mobile or a base?
If mobile, what kind a vehicle and what make?
Has your radio been modified in anyway? Top Gun mods, noise toys, etc.?
If so, what kind of mods were done to the radio?
What're you using for an antenna? A coat hanger, Wilson 1000/5000, K40, etc.?
Is your antenna a magnet mount or permanent mount?
Where is your antenna mounted? Hood, roof, trunk, bumper?
Has your antenna been tuned?
If so, what are your SWRs on Channels 1, 19, and 40?

Oh, one other question, for those of use who don't know where you live and what state you live in, how many miles away from you is "Westville" and "Danville"?

It is about five miles to Westville and about 10miles to south Danville. Cobra19 has been tuned up and a antron based antenna mounted on a pole at around 16' hand a grounding rod a ground wire coiled at the base of the pole and the copper rod.

I guess I'm confused. That topic of your message mentions "receiving badly", but your talking about transmit distance. Which is it?

First off, you can lose the attitude. I'm only trying to help. Secondly, your writing skills make it challenging for others (for me anyway) to understand what your saying. Thirdly, this is your original post:

"My radio a cobra have been puzzling me. I havn't talked on it in a while. I get back on it and my signals were only reaching to Westville . What could be the problem.
Thank you. "

There is absolutely nothing in this post that coincides to the topic of your post which has to do with receive problems. That is why I asked if your problem is with transmit or receive or possibly both.

Did you check your RF Gain setting ? [ if your radio has one, most have a variable adjustment knob, some older models have a Hi/Lo or Local/Distant switch ] I always run the RF Gain all the up,,, or the highest setting. Maybe your RF gain got turned back by accident,,,,, that would make close signals show a weaker signal on your meter.

OK, I gotcha and understand now. Checking the RF gain was what I was going to suggest, but that appears to have been ruled out already. At this point, I'm not sure what to check. The only time I've seen something like this (it really doesn't apply to your situation) is using a pre-amp on a heater, without having the heater powered, but having it in-line. In that case, it drops the receives instead of increasing it, but again, that's no applicable for your situation.

Sorry, I wish I could have been more help.
