Don't know much about radios. What type is this?

The Cobra 19 was always an entry level affordable cb radio. It has basic features and is compact in size. It is a choice of radios when compact size is necessary or budget is limited. They can be tuned to talk well. Call Sparky's about getting one peaked and tuned. Sparky's has a comment about the new model Cobra 19s in the Sparky's picks section of the website.

The 19XS from Cobra back in 1985, if it was one of the first ones, after a tune would Dead Key 7-8 watts swing to 25-30 watts PEP. The later ones were not as robust. Think Uncle C most have checked one of them.......walterb

As stated, small radios are a compromise. I'm not sure what a basic tune will get from one but 7-8 swinging 20-25 seems like a bunch. I would like to see that radio do that on a Bird 43p without being clipped. If so then yes, very impressive.

Well that was then and this is now, But I have always used a B&K 1040 Servicemaster setup on PEP using the 1000Hz input tone. I checked the one I have now against a S-45 that Sparky did for me and it did 1 watt and swung to 45+PEP no problem on AM, don't know what Sparky uses but my S-45 sounds great to me and I'm am a happy camper! walterb

Wow, thats impressive from such a small radio then. I have seen it done with a clipped limiter and an excitable Dosey before. Thats why I asked.

Chillax, the guy has a business to run.I'm sure he spends a good share of his work day on the phone with tire kickers and people with ?'s that the answers can be found easily if you look for them.I'm sure Sparky feels this time could be used more efficently.

If you planned on sending that radio out to be peaked and tuned, do you think it would be worth the price of postage and labor for a couple extra watts on a low end radio? this summer I've senn piles of these and similiar low end radios at garage sales and hamfests for $10 or less.At these prices they are basically disposable toys.

If you're not coming back I guess I wasted my time posting in this thread....Peace Out Girl Scout

Maybe, I should have been more informative in my reply post as not to cause any misunderstanding. The Cobra 19 series will talk well when tuned up. The price Al has the new 19 DX IV listed for ans already peaked and tuned by Al are well worth the price. The Cobra 19 will never be a big radio. I had spoke will Al in the past about putting a big final in a new Cobra 19 from Sparky's. It can be done. The amount of money you will have in a new Cobra 19 with the max mods Al could cram will run the labor costs more than the value of the radio itself. If you are at Sparky's then tune them up. Paying 9.99 shipping both ways to send an old 19 for just a peak and tune job is not worth it when Al could do you up a new one at a reasonable price. Sometimes I forget I may not be answering a post to a hard core CB user.
