I just stopped by a yard sale down the street. This guy has a Washington AM/SSB Base new in the box. Nothing has been opened and it's all there. Even the box looks great.

Since I'm not up on the current price on these... can someone help me out and let me know if it is worth his $225.00 asking price? Everything is still in the original un-opened plastic.

A radio is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I've seen NIB Washingtons go for $175-$200 on the auction sites. Also remember that most people will set their price a bit higher then what they will actually let the item go for. I'd offer him $150-$175 and see if he'll come off his price and negotiate. The worst that can happen is he'll say no. If you really have to have it then pay him his asking price.

Appreciate the info!!
I just got back from the yard sale again. The radio was still there. He was putting stuff and away shutting down. I offered him $175.00 so he would not have to carry back into the house and he said "SOLD".

Thinking I might just leave it in the box and take it to Sparkys and let him check it out first and get a good mic recommendation and set it up. That'll give me time to find a place to put another radio.

Bazooka Joe,

I run a used Washington base that I bought from Sparky, he added channels and opened clarifier and checked it all out. I have a Texas Star 350 and A99 antenna with it and wouldnt think of not keeping it........I DX all over when skip is in and it gets out there......If I got another radio this one would still be here in line.Partial?? maybe but I like the radio.Good Luck

Exellent find. Good idea to have Sparky give it a good tune. Since it's probably untouched I would at least power it up afew times to get some juice flowing through it again since it's ben siting.

How high do you have your A99?

Unpackaged it and plugged it in like you suggested. Came right on no problem. Even had that new radio warm up smell. Seems all is well so far. Can't believe this guy had never even taken it out of the box.

I checked to see how far I am from Sparkys. 220 Miles. Not too bad... well worth the drive I think to make sure its not damaged in shipment.

Bazooka Joe,

My A99 is 11 feet to the oax connection off the ground, making it 29 feet to the tip.....I have a H.O.A cituation here so cant put it up as high as I would like....I think I have a good combination, all from Sparky. All in all works very well. Butcher is right ,let Sparky ck it out and maybe do a little magic on it, Remind him of mine, it wasnt that long ago....Good luck and enjoy, you made a good buy
