Question About RCI-2995DX

Since I'll probably be unsuccessful in my search for the non-pilled RCI-2985DX, I've been reading about the RCI-2995DX. It's basically the same radio, with the pills built it. The problem is that it will only do < 200-watts. I'd want a amp to run with it, but I'm fearful that I'd have to get some large monster of an amp. I really don't want to be running 1k-watts here at the house.

So, the question is, what type of amp can be safely used on the RCI-2995DX?

If you don't mind running a mobile radio as a base check into the 2950dx. It has the same features as the 2985 but in mobile form. You could pick one up (and the power supply to run it) for about the same amount of money you'll pay for the 2995dx. Another alternative to the 2985 would be the Galaxy dx2527 (if you can find one). It's basically the same radio with a couple of extra bells and whistles (echo/robot voice). You could drive a 4 pill amp with the 2995dx, or loaf a 6 pill along.

you can have a switch put on the radio to turn off the 2 pill amp, then you could run an external amp of you choosing

It will take a big amp with an even bigger power supply. You could run a Texas Star Sweet 16 8 pill BUTTT, make sure you have the radio's power setting dialed back to maybe a 10-12 watt dead key and 100-120 watts peak.

First choice would be a Comp style 4 or 6 pill amplifier. Since the radio has SSB something like a MagnaForce 600 or 1000. Anything like that biased in B or AB will work too.
